====== Thomas Doomous (Dumas) Randall ====== [] Son of Elisha Burrell Randall and Mary (Mollie) Elizabeth Griffin, Thomas Doomous (Dumas) Randall was born on Dec. 16, 1879, in Lavonia (Franklin County), Georgia. After his father, Elisha Burrell Randall. died (in 1883), his mother, Mary Elizabeth Griffin Randall, married Labourn Hamilton Madden (Sept. 14, 1851 - May 9, 1932). Labourn Hamilton Madden was an older brother of Jeremiah Gose Madden; who had married Susan “Susie” Jane Randall (sister of Elisha Burrell Randall). Labourn Hamilton Madden had married his 1st Wife, Mary Sena (or Lena) McLeskey, on September 3, 1873 in Hart County, Georgia. According to the 1880 & 1900 U.S. Census, Labourn Hamilton Madden and, Mary Sena (or Lena) McLeskey had the following children (who would become Thomas Doomous Randall's step-brothers and sister): - John William Madden (1873 - 1946) - Elias Edward Madden (1876 - 1948) - Married Ruth D. Isom in 1899. - Martha Emma Madden (1879 - ) - Married Lindsey H. Isom. - Isham Madden (Jan. 1883 - ) It is not certain what happened Mary Sena (or Lena) McLeskey. It is assumed that she died shortly after the birth of Isham Madden in January 1883. We do know that Mary Elizabeth Griffin Randall married Labourn Hamilton Madden sometime between 1883 and 1887. Most of the original 1890 U.S. Federal Census records were destroyed or badly damaged by a fire in the Commerce Department in 1921. Records enumerating only 6,160 individuals—less than one percent of the schedules—survived. Those for the Randall family were destroyed. Considering his age, and the size of Labourn Hamilton Madden's growing family, this seems logical. Thomas Doomous Randall followed his Aunt (Susan “Susie” Jane Randall) and Uncle (Jeremiah Gose (Jerry) Madden) to Texas; who had made the move sometime between 1894 and 1898. According to his obituary, Thomas Doomous Randall moved the Lagow community of Dallas, Texas during 1900 (which may account for there being no census record for him that year). On September 16, 1903, in Dallas, Texas, Thomas Doomas Randall (age 23) married Swedish born Alma (Carlson) Sandahl (age 27). Alma Sandahl was born November 23, 1875, in Ryd, Jönköping, Sweden. It is "believed" that she immigrated to the United States at age 17, arriving in New York from Gothenburg, Sweden on March 10, 1893. However, her 1930 U.S. Census indicates that she immigrated in 1888. So there is some question as to whether a girl with her same name and age immigrated to New York. And since most of the original 1890 U.S. Federal Census records were destroyed or badly damaged by a fire in the Commerce Department in 1921, that record is not available to clarify this. According to the 1900 U.S. Census, by June 14, 1900, she was living with her 61 year old mother (Fredrika), brother (Carl - 26) and sister (Anna - 27) in Travis County, Texas (approx. 200 miles South of Dallas, TX). The Census also indicated that her mother, Fredrika, was a widow. At some point between the 1900 and 1910 U.S. Census, Thomas Doomous Randall's mother, Mary Elizabeth Griffin, and step-father, Labourn Hamilton Madden, moved much of their family to Childress County, Texas (approx. 250 miles Northwest of Dallas, TX).
