Believed to be the son of [[john_l_davis|John L. Davis]] and Susannah Wilson, Thomas W. (Wilson) Davis, known to friends and family as simply "T.W.", was born about 1816 in Anderson County, South Carolina.

Note 2: The Census taker incorrectly identifies the birthplace of John L. Davis' father as Maryland - while his father... only 2 lines before, had identified his birthplace as Virginia!
