====== William Wilbur Mitchell, Sr. ====== Son of unknown parents (although some speculate that his Father was William W. Mitchell, 1720-1790 of Bedford, Virginia), William Wilbur (sometimes appearing as "Wilburn") Mitchell was born in either North Carolina or Bedford, Virginia during 1748 (although some speculate that he may have been born in Ireland and immigrated to the Colonies). It is likely that there were amateur genealogists matching Names, places, and dates; which can be compelling, without taking into consideration the popularity of the name. William Mitchell was a common name at that time... several of whom lived within that same time-frame. During 1770, William Wilbur Mitchell, Sr. married Harriet Randolph in Virginia. Harriet Randolph (Born during 1742 or 1745 in Gloucester, Virginia - Died during 1824 in Franklin County, Georgia). Harriet Randolph is speculated as being the daughter of Mr. [[Beverley Randolph|Beverley Randolph]] (believed to have been born December 27, 1710 on Turkey Island, (Henrico County), Virginia - Died 1784) and Agatha Wormeley (Born September 10, 1720 in Middlesex County, Virginia - Died October 28, 1822 in Rosegill (Middlesex County), Virginia). However, I have found no record of this. And because Beverly Randolph came from a famous family, there are plenty of records to examine... none of which support the speculation. Agatha Wormeley was Mr. Beverley Randolph's second wife. They were married on January 21, 1742 in Middlesex, Virginia. His first wife had been Elizabeth Lightfoot, who he married during 1730 in Virginia. William Wilbur (or Wilburn) Mitchell, Sr. and Harriet Randolph are believed to have had the following children: - Robert Mitchell (1771 - ) - [[william_mitchell_jr|William Mitchell]] (Born April 27, 1772 in Fayetteville (Fayette County)*, GA - ). Married Catherine Moulder. Catherine was the daughter of Daniel Moulder and Catherine Pretzes. - James Mitchell (Born April 27, 1772 in Fayetteville (Fayette County)*, GA - 1842). Married Mary Moulder (Born February 17, 1777 - Died February 7, 1837 in Franklin Co., Georgia). Mary was the daughter of Daniel Moulder and Catherine Pretzes. - John Randolph Mitchell (1774 - ) - Joseph Mitchell (1776 - ) - Martha Mitchell (1779 - ) * A birthplace of Fayetteville (Fayette County), GA is highly questionable. It was more likely Franklin County, GA. William Wilbur Mitchell was a Private in the Georgia Continental Army during the American Revolution.
