Son of unknown parents, Jesse Adams was born during 1812 in Virginia. (it is sometimes mistakenly assumed “John M. Adams” was his father, but “John M. Adams” lived in South Carolina… not Virginia)
On Sept. 24, 1835, Jesse Adams married Lettice Christian Collier (age 18) in Franklin County, Georgia.1)
Lettice Christian Collier (born June 2, 1817 - died Feb. 12, 1917) is “believed” to have been the daughter of Thomas Collier (born September 23, 1784 in South Carolina - died May 24, 1855 in Franklin Co., GA) and Mary Collins (born sometime between 1792 and 1795 in South Carolina - died Aug. 4, 1872). However, I've not found any direct evidence to support this. Collier sometimes appears as “Collyer”.
They had the following children:

While there were several men named “Jesse Adams”who served in the Confederacy during “War of Northern Aggression”, most families stayed together… many men joining the same units as their sons / fathers. On May 12, 1862, Franklin Epp Adams (Jesse Adams oldest son) enlisted in the Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 34th Regiment, Company G. The following day, on May 13, 1862, Jesse Adams joined the same Regiment, but was assigned to the “34th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company K”.14) It is not known why Franklin Epp Adams joined the day before his father… perhaps an over zealous son - and a reluctant father. Whatever the reason for this slight separation, father and son both served in the Georgia Volunteer Infantry, 34th Regiment… only in different companies (G & K).
Complete Muster Roll for the "34th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, Company K".
Jesse Adams died during April, 1870 (immediately prior to that year's census taking place) at age 58, from unspecified “wounds”.

Note: While Thomas was listed as an “Adams” in the 1870 Census, he was listed as a “Clark” in the 1880 Census. He was actually Jesse Thomas Jackson Clark. While the 1870 Census did not list “relationship” (e.g., son, daughter), this was included in the 1880 Census… and Thomas was identified as a “Servant” (rather than an “adopted” child - as this was closer to the reality).
