Joseph William (or Wilburn) Maret

Son of Joseph Maret and Sarah Ann Holland-Maret, Joseph William (or Wilburn) Maret was born on March 14, 1859 in Hart County, Georgia.

Joseph W. Maret married Adela R. Walters. Adela R. Walters (born June 12, 1863 in Hart County, Georgia) was the daughter of unknown parents.

They had the following children:

  1. Sarah Petula "Pet" Maret Cawthon (b. July 14, 1881 in Hart County, Georgia - d. Oct. 17, 1973 in Toccoa (Stephens County), Georgia).1) She married Wade Hampton “Hamp” Cawthon.2)
  2. Eunice Maret-Tate (b. June 2, 1886 in Hart County, Georgia - d. Sept. 29, 1977 in Statesville (Iredell County), North Carolina).3) Her first husband was Adolphus B. Whitworth (Dec. 6, 1878 - Dec. 27, 1908).4) Her second husband was George V. Tate (Dec. 8, 1885 - Feb. 1, 1943).5)
  3. Muriel Willie Maret-Randall (b. Dec. 19, 1891 - d. Oct. 22, 1979).6) She married Henry Beaman Randall.7)
  4. Clayton “Clate” Alvin Maret (b. Dec. 21, 1893 - d. March 7, 1966 in Detroit (Wayne County), MI).8)
  5. Ernestine Mildred Maret-Roe (b. Jan. 2, 1896 - d. Jan. 11, 1983)9) She married Oscar J. Roe (June 2, 1886 - Dec. 15, 1951).10)
  6. Vera Maret (b. June 1899 - d. ?)
  7. Gussie Calelia Maret-Hatch (b. Sept. 24, 1900 - d. Dec. 28, 1989)11) She married Franklin H. Hatch (1894 - 1978)12)
  8. Rubye Maret-Butkiewicz (b. March 20, 1903 - d. Sept. 9, 1995)13) She married Harry Cecil Butkiewicz (b. ? - d. Dec. 1960).14)
Most of the original 1890 U.S. Federal Census records were destroyed or badly damaged by a fire in the Commerce Department in 1921. Records enumerating only 6,160 individuals—less than one percent of the schedules—survived. Those for the Maret family were destroyed.
