Son of Isom Maret (June 17, 1792 – July 16, 1865)1) and Phoebie Walters (Dec. 25, 1795 – March 17, 1861)2), Joseph (Franklin) Maret was born on Sept. 19, 1824 in Hart County, Georgia.

Joseph Maret married Sarah Ann Holland. Sarah Ann Holland (June 11, 1830 - May 2, 1882)3) was born in South Carolina; the daughter of Robert Holland & Sarah Jones.

They had the following children:
